The Mushroom Castle
It is a bountiful land of green fields, healthy trees, and healthy crops. With the scientific efforts of the Toadstools, Mushroom Castle receives only rain when it needs it and sunshine when it pleases. All its citizens are happy and things like hunger and freezing temperatures are almost alien to them.
W1: Grassland Kingdom
While not nearly as green as the Mushroom Castle, the Grasslands are still bountiful in their own right. The air is dry, yet rainfall is common and seasonal. Here and there the rocky mountains push upwards and are devoid of arable soil, but they make the perfect place to build one's house or even castle upon. Many Toadstools migrate to this area to retire once they get too old or fed up with the busy life of the Mushroom Castle.
King Suliman
Sultan Suliman is the King of the Grasslands. Annoyed that his lands were no where nearly as wealthy as the Toadstools, he became jealous and started to dress extravagantly in order to seem more important. He decorated everything he could in gold and silk, and to fund his desires, he institutionalized the first traveling gambling cart company. All over the world his people bring in money to pay their taxes, and he wallows in a small sea of gold. Well, he used to until Prince Larry Koopa took his wand and transformed him into a dog. He still acts quite the same; wearing jewelry of gold and sitting upon a comfortable throne.
W2: DesertLand Kingdom
The Desertlands is an odd mixture between flourishing oasis' and forever sandy deserts. Some parts seem so dry and hot that one might burn up if they look up at the sun for too long. Others are so humid that a person can almost drink in the air. The dangers here are numerous: quicksand, traveling bands of thieves, dehydration, pyramids, etc. It takes a strong willpower and a sense of direction to survive in this territory.
King Khaba
King Khaba is an old world type of aristocrat, and he believes that the best times were surely in the past. He has done is utmost best to resurrect the old constructions of ancient times, and then quickly turn them into profitable tourist attractions. He has gone so far as to neglect the needs of his own people to make sure that incoming money is happy and comfortable. While the people love their king, they all agree that some time spent as something other than a king might give him a better perspective on life.
W3: Waterland Kingdom
Possibly the wealthiest member of the Mushroomlands, the Waterland Kingdom has gained its prosperity from constant trade from everywhere around the world. If it's exotic and if its rare, you'll most likely be able to find it here. It's a collection of many islands with the largest housing King Lapu's Castle. However it is riddled with rogue pirates and unknown creatures of the deep.
King Lapu
King Lapu is not of a lustrous royal bloodline extending back generations. In fact he is a self-declared king and the son of one of the most ruthless pirates-turned-politician ever. Growing up in both an atmosphere of danger and wealth, King Lapu learned quickly how to manipulate both the people and the autocrats, eventually garnering enough power to insist the Mushroom Castle consent to his crowning. His people have many mixed feelings about him, but most tend to stay quiet when they have such large homes and very warm meals. Now being transformed into a mindless creature, his supporters have quickly 'jumped ship' and now support Princess Wendy, who loves gold just as much as the former ruler.
W4: GiantLand Kingdom
The Giantlands are the heart of the Ancients' lost world of miraculous technologies and forgotten magics. However, Nature has laid claim to this place, and the beasts of this land have grown up to five times their normal size to protect it. Many treasure hunters have gone into this kingdom with treasure on their minds, but they hardly ever come back. King Radam's castle is a shinning beacon of hope in such a hostile place, but the rest of it is jungles, swamps, and mossy statues of things long past.
King Radam
The Giantlands were ignored and thought to be the domain of old architecture and great beasts, that was until King Radam, a visionairy of his time, pulled his people together, forced them to study the works of the ancients, and then beat back the beasts that overwhelmed his lands. At face value he is a cruel tyrant without pity for the pains of his people, but as the jungles receded, they began to learn the old ways and prosper. Prince Iggy planned a hostile takeover, using the Giantlands' forgotten technology against its own people, and then cursed King Radam to be the very kind of beast he was repelled by. The people see this switch as one megalomaniac being replaced by another.
W5: Skylands Kingdom
The Skylands are agreed to be the most beautiful of all the lands, next to the Mushroom Castle. Below are mountainous fields of green with a wide summit where the crops are grown and the low class lives. Above is possibly the most impressive still working architecture of the Ancients, allowing an entire island to float amongst the clouds. One can walk in a beautiful cathedral and look outside the window to see the world and view all its people as ants.
King Macalp
The Skylands had always been a part of the Mushroom Lands from the start, and thus was one of the oldest. It had sustained itself by the toils of the working class slaving away at the fields below, while the upper class were allowed to live in luxury. King Macalp did try to change things up a bit and funded many schools of philosophical debate and nuanced art movements, but overall he was no different from his ancestors. Prince Roy's loud and destructive style of the living 'rock star' took the kingdom by utter surprise, and they were easily overthrown when the lower class supported the Koopa's cause. King Macalp now sings his heart away in a bird cage next to a window.
W6: Icelands Kingdom
Possibly the smallest of the Mushroom Kingdoms, Iceland Kingdom is covered in ice and snow nine months out of the year. It hardly gets any sun, the winds are chilling, and its beasts are a hardy and dangerous lot. Some of it does manage to sustain life, but most of its citizens earn a living from fishing and hunting. It seems to be the least fortunate in artifacts or architectures from the ancients, but many believe that's just because no one's dared to dig beneath all that ice and snow.
King Sigurd
King Sigurd and his people are very similar to the Koopas; they believe only the strong deserve to live. It's tribes are constantly at war, and their peace times are full of festivals of hand-to-hand combat. King Sigurd is a rare king for the Icelands, becaue he is old and yet strong enough to remain on the throne for a very long time. He holds the 'Old Ways' close to his heart, and believes that everything will always be the same, no matter who is in control. Prince Lemmy didn't invade like his other siblings, but rather challenged King Sigurd to a royal combat. Of course the young Prince Lemmy won, but at least he was nice enough to transform the old King into a respectable animal. He even sometimes allows King Sigurd to play with his beach ball.
W7: Pipeland Kingdom
Pipeland Kingdom is the only Kingdom in the Mushroomlands to have successfully mastered the ancient technology of the pipelines. It might be said that they did this, because their lands are littered with thousands of pipes to experiment with, but nonetheless the Pipelands is the most connected to the rest of the world than anywhere else. This has come at a price, and the area is plagued with pollution and the massive infestation of the piranha plants. If it wasn't for their transportation abilities and other technological advances, this kingdom would soon fall apart.
King Kingshi
Considering himself the head of the "Technology Capital of Mushroomlands", as King Kingshi calls the Pipelands, he has fashioned his castle as if he were ruling even higher than the Princess Peach. The walls, floors, and even ceilings have been polished with a special and quite expensive emerald glass just to prove his point. His riches could better serve his people by putting an end to the infestation or even cleaning their own water supply, but he has done neither. When Prince Ludwig Von managed to bypass all their defense systems, he merely offered a lowering of the king's taxes, and Pipeland Kingdom was his. King Kingshi still sits on his throne, but his people have fashioned a hole in it to better fit around his new condition.
W 8 "The Darklands":
The Koopa Kingdom
Definitely not part of the Mushroom Kingdom at all, it still borders and sometimes crosses those borders from time to time. It's biggest characteristic is its lack of flora and abundance of volcanic activity. In fact the pollution from eruptions is so thick that life is only possible underground where the Koopa scientists and mages have managed to create artificial sunlight and air. They haven't created much, and the only sources of light outside the artificial fields are torches and flowing lava, but at least its enough to survive on. Over generations of living in such a harsh environment, the Koopa race has become fierce survivalists. So much so that if they weren't constantly massacred by the Mushroom Kingdoms, they might have overtaken the world already. Luckily for the Toadstools, the Koopas with intelligence replenish their numbers at a slow pace.
W8.1: The Badlands
Constantly stuck between the Koopa Forces and the Mushroomlands Army, the badlands bears the brunt of the war. It is littered with demolished architecture and upturned roads, and the environment is none to hospitable either. King Koopa's forces are always on patrol; ever ready for another attack on the King's enemies. The main ground forces are a collection of slow-moving tanks, and behind and above them are hundreds of airships prepared to drop bombs on whatever remains below. Any Koopas living in this area are most likely criminals and outcasts of the Koopa Kingdom, and they live in unending fear and starvation.
W8.2: Megalopolis
Somewhat tucked away within the Blood Mountain Range, here is where life starts to become a little less hellish for the Koopas. As the wars are kept at a distance, the buildings and temples in Metropolis are still standing, while still naturally falling apart. Here is where the majority of the low-class Koopas live out their lives; constantly training for war and trying to find a little happiness in their short lives. It is easy to get lost in the underground networks of caves and shaky bridges that over over lava rivers, and many Koopas have gone in search of easier lives but to never come back.
W8.3: The Moonsand District
Even in such a dismal place as the Badlands, there is a place considered to be "better than the rest". The Moonsand District is home to the high society of the Koopas. Much of the almost royalty types live in this area, and they have protected their homes to the teeth; literally and politically. It is also home to the Great Colliseum where battles between low class Koopas are held. This is the only place where in the Badlands one can survive above the surface, and goes without saying that its citizens are willing to kill to stay exactly where they are.
W8.4: Koopa Castle
In the expansive courtyard of the Koopa Castle, there lies the royal graveyard with legends that date back ages ago. It is a monument to the evolutionary tenacity of the Koopa race as well as a morbid reminder of death to all those foolish enough to invade it. Within the castle is an unsettling mixture of military precision, occult, scientific experimentation, and royal delicacies. Everything important to the Koopas is held within this castle, for they know that anything outside of it will become victim to the Badland's ever changing environment. It is a treasure trove of secrets and knowledge, dating back all the way to the beginning of both Kingdoms. Unfortunately, constant inner fighting amongst the royal family keeps technological progress at a snail's pace, but that is the way of the Koopas. For better or worse.
