Mushrooms
One of the more unique and plentiful species of lifeforms in the Mushroom Kingdom are the mushrooms themselves. They are of the fungi family, but they have very potent chemical reactions when consumed. The most abundant variant is the Red Mushrooms, which increase the body's endorphin, adrenaline, and anti-bodies to incredible levels for a short period of time. They are best used for medicinal purposes on severely wounded individuals. A rarer variant is the Green Mushrooms, and they hold within them the chemical fuel needed to create a vastly superior form of healing solution. It is so potent that it can revive a newly deceased individual. When such a mushroom is found, it can be sold to a hospital in exchange for a free application of the refined product (or "Lives" as they are referred to). Every citizen in the Mushroom Kingdom can purchase a heart monitor that is inserted underneath the skin, and when an individual's heart stops, they are teleported to the nearest hospital where they receive their saved "Life". In opposition to the Green Mushrooms, there are the Poison Mushrooms, and they immediately attack the body's nervous system. Death is almost certain, unless a "Life" has previously been purchased. The Poison Mushroom come in many different colors; from purple with a skull image to a slightly orange-red. If one is to go around and eat random mushrooms all the time, it's best to have a saved "Life" before doing so.
Coins
The currency of both the Mushroom Kingdom and the Koopa Kingdom is referred to as Coins. They are circular palm-sized coins made of a golden alloy. The refinery process is so complicated that forgeries are practically impossible, and so it is accepted across the known world. Coins can be used to purchase many different things, although creature comforts are generally free within the castles themselves. If an individual accumulates a total of one hundred gold coins, they can then purchase a "Life" form the nearest hospital.
Unknown Treasure
Even though explorers have been travelling even in the deepest of caverns in the Mushroom Kingdom, there always seems to be more and more treasures to be found. There is a very good reason for this. The Toadstools long ago realized that treasure seekers tend to kill enemies of the Kingdom, map out previously foreign landscapes, and build up friendly relationships with foreigners. So in an effort to continue this sort of positive behavior, the Toadstool servants regularly hide treasure chests called "Question Mark Boxes" everywhere. They are filled mostly with Coins, but some have weapons of war for the bravest of adventurers. This dispersal is even carried out into to the Darklands; tempting all to try and snag a goodie before the Koopas do.
Green Transfer Pipes
The most popular form of travel would be the Pipes. They are a large, green pipe system that connects every known corner of the Kingdoms. They are an old artifact of days long past, and the maps for their grid system is long lost. To operate one, a person simply needs to crawl down one, and there is an airflow that immediately sucks the person down the pipe. Soon after (some say impossibly so), the person reaches the other side of the pipe. There are many pipe systems that have been marked as safe for all users, but there are so many more out there that not one person knows if it leads to a safe place or a lake of molten lava. Not to mention that the Piranha Plants have infected many pipe systems and claimed many lives as a result.
Racoon Leaf
The Mushroom Lands are sadly not a place of peace, and weapons are a necessity. Much of the war technology from the ancient times has remained, and are still in mass use. One of the more popular weapons is that of the "Suits". Effectively, the Suit starts off as a small item. It can be a leaf, star, flower, anything. Once it is in the hands of a person, that person can crush it, and a previously designed Suit stored in the safety of the Mushroom Kingdom is transported to that person. The Racoon Leaf creates a suit that gives the wearer a limited flight ability as well as a tail capable of hitting a foe with a massive force. The only design flaw for any Suit is that if it is damaged, it's immediately transported back to its origin, leaving the wearer with no Suit or even an activation item.
Firepower FLower
Another Suit item, the Firepower Flower gives a person a flame retardant uniform and mechanized gloves capable of creating a fire projectile, or "fireball". The flames are a destructive force, but they do not spread their fires. They only limit their damage to their targets.
Frogsuit
The Frogsuit is both a war tool as well as a recreational item. The wearer is covered in a water resistant material, the ability to breathe in water as oxygenated air, and the legs are mechanized to help swimming. For war, it's mostly used for covert operations. For recreation, its great for deep sea exploration.
Hammer Bros Suit
The Hammer Bros Suit not only creates a strong protective armor for the wearer, it generates a warhammer cappable of causing mass chaos and damage. No matter how weak the wearer might be, the landing of a hammer on a foe is always quite painful. It is very similar to the Hammer Bros uniform and battle tactics, and many suspect the Toadstools of stealing the technology from the Koopas rather than their own ancestors.
P Wing Cape
Just like the Racoon Leaf, the P Wing Cape gives the wearer a limited ability to fly. The major difference is that it also has a combative addition. When the wearer wishes to land, they land at full speed and generate a backlash of wind against all nearby foes. Some are such an expert with the P Wing Cape that they can fly indefinitely, but only a handful of heroes are known to have that ability.
Starpower
Starpower is dreaded among the armies of the Koopas. This Suit gives the wearer something akin to immortality. No weapon can harm them. Not even a little. It also electrifies the wearer with a charge so high that it kills anything instantly with the slightest touch. The major design flaw is that it is only active for a very limited time and then immediately leaves the wearer. Somehow the Starpower Suits can identify if a Koopa tries to wear them. If this happens, they deactivate permanently.
Ancient Artifacts
Here and there the treasures of times long ago find their way into the hands of the present. Some are relatively benign, while others are almost magical. The three most numerous ancient artifacts are the Magic Box, the Magic Whistle, and the Anchor. The Magic Box, once cranked, puts all Koopas into a deep sleep immediately. It's not a coma, so the Koopas can still be awoken. The Magic Whistle is a legend among legends. With but the right note, the Magic Whistle can conjure powerful winds and transport a person anywhere in the world they wish. Exactly how to control such a device is near impossible, as for some reason after a single transport, the Magic Whistle goes missing. The Anchor is a rather odd device in that it latches onto any airship and holds it to one location. Since the Mushroom Kingdom doesn't rely on airships, it only plagues the Koopa's forces.
Unusual Transportation
Other than the Pipes, there are other means of transportation. The Skycloud is a device that creates a mist around it, making it look like a cloud. It hovers over the land below, and it can move either silently or hastily. So far only the Koopas have learned to master this vehicle. Another item that is only in the Koopa's possession is the Boot. It is best used with shock troops, as it is very loud and can be used to stomp on specific targets. The final mode of transportation is the Yoshi. They run very quickly, and they can consume almost anything in their path with their sticky tongues and sharp teeth. There are different kinds of Yoshi with different abilities each. Red Yoshi can create Fireballs with special glands. Yellow Yoshi have a powerful kick that sends shockwaves through the ground around them. Some even claim that there is a Blue Yoshi that can continue to fly so long as it is constantly fed. Yet, the Yoshi are not all completely gentle like the famous warrior named Yoshi, and they've been known to eat their riders when agitated.
